Our Wedelhutte stay was the product of my weeks of research into Mountaintop Ski Lodges, which then got put into this website. So, to a degree, the website is a product of Wedelhutte. And I must say that, aside from a bit of a wrinkle with the arrival, the research paid off for a spectacular week.
Wedelhutte is part of the Secret Moments which also operates the Albergo mountain top lodge (stayed tuned). And if MountainTopSkiLodges draws inspiration from one of my other travel sites, MaldiveComplete, Wedelhutte is also particularly Maldives Inspired. Like so many distinctive Maldives resorts, Wedelhutte is a passion project of Monika “Moni” Holaus and Manfred Kleiner. Moni was not only managing the entire place throughout our stay, but also waited tables, manned reception answered the phone, etc. Moni told us that she to Maldives and admired the “no shoes, no news” vibe which was a quality she wanted to bring into Wedelhutte (but Wedelhutte has slippers – see photo below).
FOOD – Lovely warming soups (my fav), exceptional wine cellar (Schloss Gobelsburg Lamm 1st Lage Gruner Veltliner Kamptal 2021 on evening…wow), tasty warm bread…truly gourmet dining
GETTING THERE – The one wrinkle we had was getting there. The directions that were provided were simply quite problematic. I have gone into detail about them and provided a completely re-drafted set of more effective directions in my TripAdvisor review.
SKIING OUT – Wedelhutte 13 red is a bit steep in a couple of places and maybe harder first thing in morning with icy corduroy. It takes you down to the Wedelexpress (which will take you about 100 yards above Wedelhutte allowing you to hit the Zillertal side of the ski area, or the TopJet lift to a variety of delightful reds or blues.
SPECIALS – The dench shower in spa with strong the, hot water was a welcome soak at the end of the day on the slopes. The pseudo-sauna “heater rooms” were a bit of a damp squib though.
